More Good-byes

Of course one of the hardest things about moving is having to say good-bye to friends - which we've been doing a lot of the past couple of weeks over "one more dinner/coffee/outing"...

Okay so Wolfgang was crying at this point and Enkidu was looking away from the camera - but that's an accurate reflection of the moment! Randy and Heather, I can't even begin to express how grateful we are for your friendship and how much we are going to miss our endless afternoons-turned-to-evenings-complete with endless food and conversation!

The two of us with Blanche, one of our "first" friends here, who loaned us all sorts of household goods and with whom we had good convos and laughs over lengthy dinners and glasses of wine.

Last Sunday at church

Back on-line after some time away from internet access...

Here are some photos of our last Sunday at The Message. Anthony was leading the service this morning so he called us up front to officially say good-bye and pray for us. I (Jul) really had a hard time keeping my emotions in at this point as I looked around at the faces of a community that has been such a meaningful part of our experience in Cape Town. We have learned much from these people and church body (ask us in person some time and we'll happily share).

A couple more from Okavango Delta (Bots)

This is such a beautiful and colorful shot, portraying the peace of the Delta - I had to post it. One of the students on our trip, Eivind, took it. The second photo is a group shot as we departed the Delta and said good-bye to our guides. Those 2 days were definitely a highlight of the trip!

South African Cheese Festival

This past weekend was the South African Cheese Festival, held at a farm out in the winelands - so of course 2 Way Travel needed to be there!! Mike graciously allowed us to close the office early on Friday so that we could go together and revel in the vast samples of cheese (all kinds from cow's to sheep's to goat's), wine, chocolates, olive oils, breads, and all kinds of dips and spreads and relishes and chutnies. Vendors and farmers from across the country came to showcase their wares - so many in fact that we couldn't sample them all! I know, how can you turn down free samples, alas.

In addition to the 2 Way team of Mike, Heather and I, Jim also came, as did Lisa (Mike's girlfriend). Jim took a photo of four of us inside one of the cheese tents: below (left to right) is Lisa, Mike, me and Heather.


Biltong is a famous South African dried meat snack, made from beef or ostrich or any type of game. The classic time to eat biltong is while watching a rugby game and drinking a beer.

Time with Friends

Now that we're starting to enter our last weeks in Cape Town (!!!) one of the most important aspects of saying good-bye to our life here is having quality time with friends and people who have been important to us during these last two years.

Last week Vuyi stayed with us for a night during a brief visit - she and husband Tulani moved from CT to Joburg last October, so it was very special to have some time together again!!

And here's Lisa and 3 month old Lithemba, on an afternoon visit. Lisa and I haven't been able to do as many of our walks as we had done last year, now that Lithemba is born and Lisa & Mawethu have moved to another house (not in the same neighborhood) but we still love to spend time together. Isn't he a cutie though?
